Holy Cross is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod and has been part of the Portage community since 1961.
The congregation is served by Rev. Timothy Engel. Pastor Engel is a 1989 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He is married and has two children. In addition to serving Holy Cross, Pastor Engel is chaplain for the Portage Fire
and Police Departments and the Team Coordinator for IN-CIRT, the Indiana District Critical Incident Response Team. |

Worship at Holy Cross
The Holy Cross congregation gathers for worship on Sundays at 9:00 am.
Worship at Holy Cross is historic Lutheran worship, making use of the Church's rich heritage of liturgy and hymns.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the
2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, as well as on the Wednesdays following a Communion
Sunday as applicable.
On Sundays when there is no Communion, Pastor Engel provides a children's message for the younger worshippers. On those Sundays he also leads some of the congregational singing with his guitar. |

Service at Holy Cross
Both members and non-members are encouraged to participate in the service life of the congregation.
Holy Cross has two service organizations for women. The Lydia Society promotes the fellowship life of the congregation. The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) supports mission projects in the area and overseas.
Both men and women can serve on the Altar Guild. The Altar Guild is responsible for preparing the altar
area for the congregation's worship services.
Men are invited to serve as ushers, and individuals and families are asked to serve as greeters.
All members 18 years and older are eligible to join the Voters Assembly. The Voters usually meet on the second Sunday of each month after the worship service. |

Education at Holy Cross
Christian education for both youth and adults is provided at Holy Cross.
Adult Bible Study is conducted on Thursday mornings at 10:00 am. Other adult studies are offered at various times throughout the year.
Confirmation instruction is provided for middle-school age students to prepare them for the public confession of their faith and the reception of Holy Communion.
Adult Instruction Class is available for those wanting to learn more about the teachings of our church. |
